Over 100 women legislators and activists gathered in Washington, D.C. on October 1-3, 2017 to talk about advancing sustainable security for the 21st century while supporting sensible budget priorities. During the three day conference, participants attended fourteen sessions–ranging from Pentagon spending to nuclear disarmament to communicating effectively and more–before taking to Capitol Hill to meet with their representatives and recommend sound policy.

At the Torchbearer Reception on October 2, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13) was presented with the 2017 WiLL/WAND Torchbearer Award by her colleague and 2015 WiLL/WAND Torchbearer Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (IL-9). WAND, Inc. board chair Karen Jacob and WAND Education Fund board chair Charleta Taveres were also recognized with the Janice E. Kelly Award for their dedicated leadership over a decade as board chairs. Ten women state legislators were also recognized as WiLL Pacesettersa t the reception for their outstanding legislative service and commitment to sound, progressive policy.
